Three incumbents ---- James Bond, Maggie Houlihan and Jerome Stocks ---- are seeking re-election Nov. 4.

Seven challengers are also in the race for three open seats on the City Council. They are Betsy Aceti, Tony Brandenburg, Rachelle Collier, Doug Long, Bob Nanninga, Harriet Seldin and Joe Sheffo.

Stocks also has raised the most to date, with nearly $25,000.

Filing a Fair Political Practices Commission Form 460 is mandatory for any candidate who has raised more than $1,000.

Betsy Aceti was the only candidate who did not file the form.

Contributions cannot exceed $250 per individual and candidates must list the full name, address and occupation of each contributor.

  1. For those of you who have received the Jerome Stocks mailer, it should be noted the man standing with Mr. Stocks, Danny Dalager, Brian Bilbray, Christi Guerin is Mike Armstrong. Mike Armstrong is vice president and chief council for Barret Homes.

  2. I used it to scoop my dog’s diarrhea off our concrete patio. It worked great and actually improved the smell and look of the BS piece.

    $25,000+… are you kidding me?

Man that Jerome stocks is a Duke Cunningham waiting to happen. All that regional money spent on our own little ol beach community. Wow….I guess all the developers figure they will get a greater return on their investment with Stocks. I think they are right.

  3. please rememeber this picture two years from now when Dalager is running again, and vote him out of office, too.

  5. So the surfrider foundation takes bribes from the city of Solana Beach to approve their shoreline position, what else will they do next?? Approve off shore drilling??

  6. Let us not forget Maggie Houlihan repeatedly endorsed Randy Duke Cunningman, the last time while he was under indictment.

She also voted for the Barret homes development projects that sit abandoned as blight.

Jerome and Maggie need to go.

  7. How about the way they all ganged up with Steve Aceti (aka, SRF Sand Lobbyist) to put the sand tax on the ballot again for the 2nd time in 5 months?

  8. Aceti is out of the race.

My prediction? 3rd place beats fourth place by less than 200 votes.

Aceti who will appear on the ballot anyway, will pull 400 or so votes. The votes to a non candidate could effect the outcome.

    lame.

  9. was this a ruse on Aceti's part -- pull out and still pull votes?

  10. just like Nannaga did years ago....Nanaga took out a good council person with the votes that Bob took from Dennis.....sad..and Bob still has no chance of winning, just being a spoiler for good candidates....he loves his "15 min. of fame"

  12. Sorry Anonymous 5:54pm.

Dennis Holz failed to when re-election in 2002 because he did not receive enough votes.

Unlike Mrs. Aceti, I'm running for office with the intent of winning one of the three open seats.

As the co-owner of a successful cyber cafe in downtown Encinitas, and a widely read opinion editorialist. I would say my chances of winning have improved significantly.

And the proper spelling of my name Is Nanninga not Nannaga or Nanaga.

Thank you for taking an active concern in my attempts to bring unwavering environmental stewardship to the Encinitas City Council.

    Thank you for voting.

  13. As citizens of this great country, don't we have the RIGHT to run for office, even if it is just to be a spoiler? Does the name Ross Perot ring a bell? By the way anon 8:25, I love the shtickl of yiddish!! There are quite a few meshuggenas who wouldn't recognize the truth, even if plotzed on their head.

  14. I'm voting for Bob and Bob only. In other words, I maximize the impact of my vote by voting for only 1 candidate.

  15. Dennis Holz failed to when re-election in 2002 because he did not receive enough votes.

Because Bob split the vote. That wasn't cool and this time around it is Holz' followers who should think about dropping out so that Bob can win. Don't split BOB's vote and let Jerome win again. Please.

  16. Dennis Holz failed to win re-election because he failed to control traffic!! His much ballyhooed plan to fix the traffic failed and cost the taxpayers $250,000. Another joke politician, elected by the idiot voters of Encinitas. Just like them all over the past 20 years!!

Oh I see. You raise your standards by lowering the bar.

  18. The incumbents records are clear - they vote the same 98.6% of the time.

Let's vote for real change; Nanniga, Seldin and Long (he did some work at my house, seemed like a nice guy, who cares about Encinitas)...
