Looks like many more trees than Leucadia's Hwy101. What a crappy looking stretch of road is N. Coast Hwy101. I am sure happy the streetscape is finally in the works.
I like Eucalyptus trees, I think they're beautiful. As a defining "Heritage Tree" for Leucadia, I'd have to say that the trees planted by the original settlers of this town has top ranks. No offense Bob, but most California natives are not very attractive IMHO. Here's something to try - head on over to Quail Gardens and climb to the highest point - they have walkways over the hilltop which has been restored to true "San Diego native" - ie: only the plants that were here before the Europeans (us, mostly) arrived. Interesting to see, but I wouldn't want my backyard to look like that! (It does, kinda. Need a mulcher, me. ;)
I'm not a California native, and I'll bet that nearly a majority of our residents are not either (you know it's true!) The biggest real argument I've heard about the eucs is that they are messy and require more maintainance. How much more, I wonder? $10K/year? $20K? I say we should perhaps just maintain our trees for crying out loud!
I'm with you, Doc! The Yooks are beautiful, big and they reach their full height in 15 years if you humor them. Their roots are deep in our local heritage. I think this is where God would have planted them in the first place if he had an extra day. I'd like to see at least two in every median. Let's not forget that the inspired designers of Leucadia named all of our Streets with Greek names. Harmonious with that, the word "Eucalyptus" itself is Greek and means "Well covered". I'll say!
The first Leucadians would roll in their graves thinking Encinitas would want to eradicate their dream and our cover.
I have been in told - "In the day, there were even more trees" - how wonderful it that!

"That looks wonderful. Too bad they're not natives. Guess we'll have to cut them to the ground."

The real Bob would have properly spelled and capitalized "That's".
Eucalyptus are weeds dude...
ReplyDeleteIf the plant is valued, it's not a weed. But your minority opinion is noted.
