Dalager Speaks Up

t has been my honor and privilege to have served the community as a member of the City Council and I would be honored to have your vote again.

The truth is, I’m very proud of our accomplishments during my time on our City Council. Through these difficult economic times:

— We maintain one of the largest financial reserves of any city, initiated pension reform, and our fiscal policies have earned us the highest possible credit rating.

— We’ve had zero layoffs, that has allowed us to continue with capital projects, and have no cutbacks in city services.

— We’ve made public safety a top budget priority, resulting in one of the lowest crime rates in the county.

— The EPA honored us as one of the nation’s most energy efficient city halls.

— We were also awarded best-restored beach for our work on Grandview Beach — using only transient occupancy taxes!

— We’ve won hard-fought approvals for the Hall Community Park, performing arts center at San Dieguito Academy and Scripps Hospital expansion.

I’ve been part of this community my whole life, but now my political opponents — the same individuals who opposed all of these approvals — are trying to tear me down right before the election. The nasty negative politics we all see at the national and state level has now unfortunately come to our wonderful small city. An honest debate of the issues that will impact the citizens of Encinitas is now buried in this storm of personal attacks.

Their last-minute attacks, however, can’t undo my five decades of commitment to Encinitas and I will not participate in this negative campaigning.

It’s an interesting coincidence that most of the dirt that has been tossed about comes from people opposed to our wonderful Hall Park and a necessary Scripps Hospital expansion. I strongly support both of these community improvements. If I have to be on the receiving end of this treatment for my support, so be it.

With your continued faith and support, we will finish the work we’ve started:

— Protect the Hall Community Park approval, and get it built.

— Assist Scripps Hospital in its expansion to better serve our needs.

— Initiate the northern Highway 101 and Cardiff specific plan.

— Replenish the sand to protect our beaches and bluffs.

Together, we will make Encinitas an even better place to live. Thank you.

Mayor Dan Dalager has been a member of Encinitas City Council for eight years.

The most negative, fallacious political mailer that has been sent out is his.

  2. He believes he is a victim.

Good thing Leucadia Blog offers a platform for this poor slump. Just because the poor man already has a stranglehold on council business, access to every available Encinitas venue, the unstinting support of a toothless media . . .

Besides no apology or accountability for all that he has done to violate the public trust, there isn't even gratitude for yet another free opportunity to spread misleading information fraught with insinuation.

  3. Dan you're full of poop the mailers you have sent out distort the truth and are negative in tone. During your two terms the city has made poor real estate purchases and salary and pension hikes that are unsustainable. We've seen the road work fall behind and North Hwy 101 begin to look like a third world country. Your current post distorts truths as well. Contrary to what you infer both Teresa and Tony support a park and want to build a world class skate park there as well as sports fields. They wanted both the hospital and performing arts center a long with community garden on a city property on Quail Gardens drive which you opposed. Just what do you want to do with that property, sell it to Carlitas? One can't help but notice your large signs on large parcels of land are your supporters looking for favorable zoning or building permits?

  4. Delusion verses RealityOctober 16, 2010 8:25 AM

Addressing DELUSIONAL (LIAR) issues as follows:

D- We maintain one of the largest financial reserves of any city, initiated pension reform, and our fiscal policies have earned us the highest possible credit rating.

Reality: DALAGER, JEROME AND MAGGIE CAUSED OUR PENSION CRISIS in 2005!!!!!! IF it weren’t for you all being owned by the unions, this would never be an issue! You are a crook and stealing our childrens future dollars and giving them to yourselves and other city employees. Dalager- Don’t you remember YOU voted in the 40% increase and 14% pay increase in 2005!!!!! YOU are THE PROBLEM!!!!! Not the solution.

D— We’ve had zero layoffs, that has allowed us to continue with capital projects, and have no cutbacks in city services.

Reality: This is a bad thing. Business at City Hall is at an all time low. Development has stopped and the capital budget is near nothing, yet the City is carrying all the deadwood at City Hall while they spike their pensions even further!!!

D— We’ve made public safety a top budget priority, resulting in one of the lowest crime rates in the county.

Reality: The City has the lowest on call sheriffs per capita of any other City. It’s the residents that make the community safe. I will shoot someone who enters my property and attempts to harm someone or steal something. I also get involved in community situations when it looks like someone with bad intentions is wondering around. Dalager has nothing to do with the safety of our community.

D-We maintain one of the largest financial reserves of any city, initiated pension reform, and our fiscal policies have earned us the highest possible credit rating.

Reality- Dalager along with Stocks, borrowed 22 million dollars to finish the library, buy the overpriced Public Works Yard, and build more fire McMansions all without going to a vote of the citizens. Dalager spiked the city’s DEBT, Just like he spikes his own DEBT and needs to get $100k bailouts from local developers. Regarding the pensions: Ha What a joke, see the first reality comment. Dalager’s fiscal policy is to obey what the unions and developers tell Jerome to do and then Jerome tells his puppet Dalager what to do. Dalager is owned by special interests.

D— The EPA honored us as one of the nation’s most energy efficient city halls.

Reality- Dalager had nothing to do with this project. Like usual, he is riding on the coattails of a smart and nice community.

D— We were also awarded best-restored beach for our work on Grandview Beach — using only transient occupancy taxes!

Realtiy- Dalager had nothing to do with this project. Like usual, he is riding on the coattails of a smart and nice community.

D— We’ve won hard-fought approvals for the Hall Community Park, performing arts center at San Dieguito Academy and Scripps Hospital expansion.

Reality: He cost the City millions of dollars of lawsuits and has delayed the Hall Park by years, he opposes the planning commission he appointed, and he only listens to special interests and not the general public in the community.

D- I’ve been part of this community my whole life.

Reality: So what? Rat turds have been a part of this community your whole life. Dalager is no more qualified to be on City Council than a Rat Turd.

  8. Dan, I'll assume you wrote this response. You also suggest it is the truth.

You suggest that there has been a "storm of personal attacks" and that "I will not participate in this negative campaigning."

The real truth is that you completely and knowingly participated in these attacks and negative campaigning, unless, of course, the mailer we received was not written or approved by you.

It's important that if you want to stand up for truth, you abide in the same reality as the rest of us.

  9. Dalager can also take credit for:

    - Keeping Beacons beach access the most dangerous in San Diego County.
    - Failing to place porta potties at any and all Luecadia beaches, forcing the public to urinate or more in the ocean or on private property.
    - Allowing NCTD to maintain a moonscape environment along the rail corridor.
    - Failing to replace dead or dying trees along the 101.
    - Allowing the wrong trees to be cut in Leucadia Roadside park.
    - Keeping the north hwy 101 corridor as ugly as possible.
    - Allowing the flowers on hwy 101 to die from lack of water.
    - Failing to move the Streetscape project along in a timely manner throughout Leucadia.

Dalalger is a waste as a council man. He does not deserve to be elected, least of all re-elected.

Addressing Dalager's Dilusional comments with Reality Part II.

With your continued faith and support, we will finish the work we’ve started:

D — Protect the Hall Community Park approval, and get it built.
Reality: It will be build quicker, more efficient, and better without Dalager involved.

Reality- he causes delays and additional costs.

D— Assist Scripps Hospital in its expansion to better serve our needs.

Realtiy: This is not a City Project. Their masterplan is approved and they are working through the building permit process. Dalager has nothing to do with it.

D— Initiate the northern Highway 101 and Cardiff specific plan.

Reality: Dalagers lack of common sense has him focused on putting any City Money into the Regional Sports Park and Fire McManions. By making these two projects his priority, there is not sufficient money for other high priority projects like the northern Highway 101, Cardiff specific plan, moonlight beach, Beacons Beach, other park improvements, Lowering the RR tracks, Quiet Zones, Etc…...

D— Replenish the sand to protect our beaches and bluffs.

    Reality: Big Deal.

  14. As for "...initiating the Cardiff and Leucadia specific plans."

The Leucadia Specific Plan was initially intended to be implemented at the same time as the Downtown Specific Plan. That's a long time ago, Dan.

In Cardiff the Specific Plan was drafted by citizens and butchered by your staff into an unrecognizable facsimile of the drafted document, on your watch. It was re done again, with added expense for staff and many years later partially approved. It is not complete now.

The costly time delays cost money and you should not be proud of the way either of these civic projects were handled.

  15. Kranz is a certified failure! Living in his mother-in-laws home in Leucadia as a paper salesman without ONE job as as a community volunteer in any capacity! This is unacceptable and looks like a remake of Nick "NOBODY" Liebham (remeber that young feller with all the big fancy degrees and not one ounce of experience anywhere outside the classroom)?

Kranz aims low when he posts photos of his father as a Iwo Jima veteran to what try and bolster his own pathetic military record (National Guard, airfield maintenance hack).

When I was accosted by the Socialist Kranz/Barf team marketeer at Ralphs on Sunday (openly soliciting a handout on private property without permission-known in other parts of the country as TRESPASSING) I asked him "what has Kranz ever done professionally that would prepare him for local politics?" His reply was that he raised three kids (wow, I love kids and have two myself but let me get out my sticker book and grab a gold star) and that he pays his mortgage...that was it!!! The sad thing is Kranz pays a mortgage on a home that was given to him by his mother in law do what all good socialists do for their kids...sharing the wealth...instead of making ol' Tony boy go out there and make it himself like a big boy instead of trying to make it so hard as 'an artist' because someone told him many years ago to follow his heart. Heart is for art which is a great hobby, tell me you can raise a family of three doing it and who wouldn't be outside sittin in the sun painting tropical flowers??!

Krantz is not to be taken seriously as one with ANY experience to lead the caliber of citizen that demands more from those that speak on their behalf.

Tony, please go sell some more paper, volunteer somewhere for at least 1000 hours (preferably with wounded veterans after riding your dad's Iwo Jima coat tails) and then come back and tell us how much you know about the Encinitas, business, and how we should position ourselves on the issues moving forward.

And ask your socialist partner in crime Teresa Barf, how much does her tax-payer funded lifetime union pension from Del Mar pay...let's spread that around a bit and tell her that she can start by cutting a check to the City for the $15,000 that she bilked because her feelings were hurt. Pay up Barf!!

  16. Character CountsOctober 19, 2010 9:34 AM

What many of us expect from a candidate is the caliber of character that Teresa and Tony represent and their commitment to an open and transparent government that welcomes our participation in the democratic process in shaping our vision of Encinitas. Time to boot out the pro development forces who have lined their pockets at our expense and provided a platform for people aligned with the modus operandi of Andreen. Vote for TRUST and TRANSPARENCY. Elect BARTH and KRANZ!
